Are you looking for commercial metal shelving in Southern California? You could be having a hard time because it really depends on whether you are looking for industrial or consumer-level products. If you are looking for consumer-level products then you probably are having an easier time because there are plenty of those in the marketplace. In fact, many times, a person can go to Costco or Amazon in order for what they need fairly quickly. However, if you are doing industrial level business or products then the shelving is probably not what you need. If you are a business that is doing larger amounts of business then you may be frustrated with the number of consumer products that are in your way of getting what you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not really your fault because you cannot be expected to know insider industry terms for the products you require. However, a lot of businesses act like you should know before you have experience in the industry. Therefore, if you are doing a search like “Southern California commercial metal shelving” then you could be missing the boat. It is because that is not how businesses that sell the products you are trying to buy talk about the product itself. You will keep going down the consumer lane of products until you accidentally meet one that is appropriate or someone meets you halfway and tells you what you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you are actually looking for is a pallet rack. It is called a pallet rack because it was developed to hold pallets. However, to the common person, it just looks like shelving in a very industrial fashion. Therefore, you can have a hard time trying to find a pallet rack because you do not know that the name of the shelving is pallet rack. In fact, the original use of pallet rack was not to be used as shelving or, at least, shelving as we know it. It was created to hold pallets or skids. Therefore, using the term shelving is holding you back from finding what you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another thing you should know is that there are several different types of pallet rack. You have a pallet flow<\/a> rack which is great for businesses that have to adhere to FIFO practices. You have cantilever rack<\/a>. Cantilever rack holds long and heavy items like timber and steel. You have a pushback<\/a> rack system that is a high-density storage system that follows last in first out methods of inventory placement. You also have drive-in<\/a> or drive-through racks which are exactly what they sound like they do. They allow a forklift to drive into the rack and pick or place products on the shelving unit. Finally, you have what you are probably thinking of which is a selective rack. A selective rack is like the shelving units you have at home. It allows you to pick and place your products however you see fit on your shelves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need to figure out what type of inventory system you are using. In general, if you are not using the FIFO method of inventory storage then you are following LIFO by proxy. LIFO means last in \u2013 first out as far as a storage method is concerned. LIFO users do not have to use either the pallet flow or selective rack. However, you may want to consider getting a warehouse design. Anyone who has an expiration date that they need to follow should probably optimize their workflow for that issue. You can do that by getting a warehouse CAD layout that will show how your workflow will work. You can plan your warehouse design around that workflow. Doing so makes sure that your business flows efficiently as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
